Australian Fish Names

Australia has over 4500 finfish species with some of these species being known by five or six names. CSIRO is one of several organisations working together to simplify fish names to improve accuracy of species identification.

• Standard names of Australian fishes
  A joint project to produce a uniform list of standardised names for Australian fishes
  
• CAAB - Codes for Australian Aquatic Biota
  A coding system database for aquatic organisms in the Australian region. Covers fishes and selected other organisms and aquatic groups of research or commercial interest.
