The Huon Estuary Study was undertaken in southern Tasmania from 1996-1999. It investagated the interplay of human activity and natural processes upon the waterway. The projects aims and objectives were to:

  • Determine the sources, distribution and cycling of nutrients. Trace the links between nutrients and algal blooms.
  • Evaluate the processes such as fish farming and rainfall that contribute organic matter to sediments.
  • Determine the distribution and composition of organic material beneath fish cages.
  • Monitor environmental quality.
