Description: | Bluefin, Australian Maritime College (AMC) 34.5m fisheries training vessel, is powered by a Caterpillar D398 main engine. Fitted with a controllable pitch propeller and bow thruster, it is capable of cruising all Australian waters. Bluefin engages in stern trawling, both bottom and midwater, purse seining and prawn trawling. It can also be used to demonstrate other fishing methods on and beyond the continental shelf. Fish handling and storage capabilities include a refrigerated ice room, blast freezer, and refrigerated salt water and chilled water systems. Bluefin is equipped with a range of electronic equipment including a Simrad EK60 (38&120kHz) scientific echo sounder, OLEX 3D bottom mapping plotter, JRC Raster scan 96nm Radar, Simrad SQ270 sonar, Furuno ARPA radar, colour and monochrome underwater cameras. | |||||||||
