Known throughout the Great Barrier Reef, Queensland (Raine Island 11°36’S southward to the Capricorn Group 23°30’ S) in 1.5-12 m depth (Allen et al 2017). Previously confused with Pomacentrus philippinus, which is still known from the following NW Australian localities: Rowley Shoals, Scott Reef and Seringapatam Reef, WA and Cartier Island and Ashmore Reef, Timor Sea (AFD online, accessed 19.6.2019).
