Description: Cruise FR 08/87 was undertaken for a rock lobster larval and tuna larval survey; satellite sea surface temperature validation study and to examine the vertical distribution of organic particulates (<1mm) in the water column. Work completed and data acquired included sea surface temperature measurements, measured by seven different instruments or techniques (3 infra-red radiometers, thermistor, thermosalinograph, bucket and NOAA satellites); collection of plankton and organic particulates samples; ADCP, CTD and underway data. The EZ net failed to operate during the cruise. However, samples were collected on three occasions by using a surface net operated on a boom from the side of the ship. Data and samples were collected for on board and laboratory analysis.
