Taxon Notes:Added after description from the Indo-West Pacific, including Australia. Previously confused with and/or misidentified as Etelis carbunculus (Andrew et al 2021), which also still occurs in Australia. In Australia, E. boweni is likely widespread in suitable habitats and has been confirmed from off the Recherche Archipelago area to the Dampier Archipelago (WA), Christmas Island, Timor Sea & Arafura Sea (NT) and in Qld from a few records south to Moreton Island in depths of at least 183-319 m.
