In Australia, <i>G. giuris</i> is known from rivers of the Hammersley Ranges and the Kimberley Region of Western Australia and eastward to the Northern Territory. Outside of Australia, also confirmed based on specimens examined from Madagascar, South Africa, India, Bangladesh and Malaysia. In addition genetic samples indicate the species is known also from Vietnam and China.
