Thompson (1997) regarded Moolgarda as a synonym of Liza based on examination of paratypes. Senou (2002) noted that the holotype of the type species of Moolgarda (M. pura) was a specimen of Valamugil seheli, the type species of Valamugil. The holotype probably does not exist, but the original description indicates that Senou (2002) was correct (Kottelat 2013). As a result Moolgarda is the older name and takes precedence.","habitat":"","NameVerifiedSource":"","Parent_Id":37381000,"scientificName":"Moolgarda spp.","kingdom":"Animalia","order":"Mugiliformes","otherVernacularNames":"","Reference":"","vernacularName":"[a mullet]","ChildCodes":"37381010 37381006 37381022 37381023 37381017","RecordCreatedOn":"2012-10-05","scientificNameID_WoRMS":"","family":"Mugilidae","standardName":"","class":"Actinopterygii","scientificNameID_AFD":"","CAAB_status":"Valid"}
