Gloom and doom or sustainability: the state of world fisheries
This talk will review the history of controversy on the state of the worlds fisheries and discuss the recent progress towards common ground between sometimes opposing views. The progress many countries have made towards sustainability will be highlighted, as will be the difference in approaches required for industrial fisheries as opposed to small-scale fisheries. The environmental impact of marine fisheries will be shown to be much less than animal protein from agriculture and in many dimensions less than vegetarian diets.
