ANDS and ARCS Briefing
A briefing for staff on the ANDS and ARCS projects. These are two components of the Platforms for Collaboration capability of the federally funded National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS).
ANDS (Australian National Data Service, http://www.ands.org.au/) aims to:
influence national policy in the area of data management in the Australian research community; inform best practice for the curation of data; and
transform the disparate collections of research data around Australia into a cohesive collection of research resources.
ARCS (Australian Research Collaboration Service, http://www.arcs.org.au/) aims to enable and enhance research through the provision of long-term eResearch support, services and tools. Current tools include the ARCS Data Fabric and the ARCS Grid.
Each of these projects received significant new funding in the last Federal budget and are therefore expanding their activities. One of the ANDS activities of interest to data managers is the establishment of an Australian Research Data Commons research infrastructure (see http://www.ands.org.au/ardc.html).
