Linking hydrodynamics, sediment nutrient flux and chlorophyll production on the continental shelf
This talk will cover the following topics: The importance of marine sediments in shelf biogeochemistry. Why we think waves and bottom currents are likely to impact the sediment nutrient flux on the West Australian shelf, and what that means for production dynamics. Evidence of correlation between temporal patterns in satellite derived chlorophyll biomass and wave height on the inner West Australian shelf. Conflicting evidence from a recent mooring deployment? Problems of quantifying benthic nutrient flux across the shelf – a strategy for the future.
