Bringing on Biotechnology - Tasmania's 10-year Strategy

The Tasmanian Department of Economic Development is developing a ten-year biotechnology strategy for the state in consultation with industry, research institutes and the community. Its focus is on the State's clean, marine and healthy biotechnologies.

The vision for Tasmanian Biotechnology, including specific opportunities and challenges for niche sectors, will be identified and state government initiatives in the biotechnology space showcased. Tasmania’s biotechnology research and industry capability is being promoted on the international stage, with the State Government joining Tasmanian companies and researchers at the leading annual international meet-fest, at the 2005 and 2006 Biotechnology Industry Organisation (BIO) conferences and is preparing to attend the 2007 event.

Wendy Spencer is the Director of Innovation, Science and Technology at the Tasmanian Department of Economic Development. Wendy will be introduced by John Volkman, Chair of the Tasmanian Science and Technology Council
