From plankton to basking sharks: the use of quantitative tools

Here I give a flavour of the collaborative research I have been involved in over the last few years, highlighting some of the interesting findings and numerical tools I have used. Research examples from my work in the Benguela ecosystem include assessing primary production from satellite using generalised models, and investigating the recruitment variability of pelagic fish through pattern recognition approaches. My more-recent work in the North Atlantic has focused on the impacts of climate change on the plankton community and higher trophic levels. Understanding and mitigating the impacts of a changing climate on Australian marine ecosystems will be fundamental to their sustainable management in the future, and is an area of research I would like to develop further at CSIRO and UQ.
