Peter Charuk
Artist in residence March – May 2005
Synapse Art and Science Residency program
Peter E Charuk is an active artist and educator with 25
years experience. He has an extensive career in visual and electronic
arts and his experience includes exhibitions in the US, Bulgaria, UK and
numerous Australian galleries. He has been awarded a number of prestigious
prizes and awards, and his work is collected by many international and
Australian museums, libraries and galleries.
Peter is interested in where technologies form the boundaries
of cultural reference and researches extensively questions of interactivity,
narrativity and audience interface design for digital and non-digital
formats. Peter also has a wide ranging teaching background spanning those
25 years. He has taught at primary, secondary and tertiary levels. He
is currently a Senior Lecturer in digital media at the University of Western
Sydney, Nepean. He has travelled nationally and internationally to speak
about his work.
This short seminar will introduce his diverse art practice
to the audience. It will show examples from 3 bodies of work done in the
last few years - Men's Work, No Diving, Kustom Kars and his latest published
piece AquaLux, a video that was successful in gaining the artist in residence
at the CSIRO Marine Research."
