Chief Health and Medical Officer,
NASA Headquarters, Washington DC
Extending life to there, finding life beyond
Dr Richard Williams MD, FACS, NASA Chief Health and Medical
Officer, will give an illustrated lecture on the NASA space exploration
program by humans and robots, space medicine, and the current human
research which seeks to discover countermeasures to the adverse effects
of micro-gravity, radiation and isolation. Comment will be made on the
Columbia tragedy.
Dr Williams
serves as the Chief Health and Medical Officer for the National Aeronautics
and Space Administration (NASA) with responsibility for the oversight
of all medical aspects of NASA missions involving humans. He also has
extensive military experience. Dr Williams will be visiting the AAD
and the Polar Medicine Unit with Professor Des Lugg Chief, Medicine
of Extreme Environments, NASA HQ. Des was the previous Head of AAD Polar
Medicine.
