DSTO's research into littoral waters operations
The Royal Australian Navy has operated in littoral waters in the region,
represented by an extensive archipelagic geography, for many years and
has acquired an enviable capability which was demonstrated most recently,
for example, in operations in the Persian Gulf. DSTO supports this capability
through a focused research program which addresses platforms, sensor
systems, weapons, operational analysis. This allows the RAN to be an
informed purchaser of military equipment and enables specific solutions
and both system and operational optimisation for Australian requirements.
This talk provides a snapshot of the extensive research program in the
Maritime Operations Division covering mine counter measures, amphibious
operations and hydrography especially, and broadly addresses the maritime
environment research program.
