BRAN graphics archive

These images are provided to convey a notion of the strengths and weaknesses of BRAN, which we are still assessing ourselves. To view the animations you might need a fli movie player. For selected examples, links marked [SPIN1] show output from the spin-up run of OFAM, during which the same atmospheric forcing was applied, but no assimilation of altimeter or other data was done.

Some plots show the temperature anomaly, rather than the absolute temperature. This is defined here as the difference from the CARS climatological value for the day.

Updates
1 Sept 2005: Commenced SPINUP4, which has revised initial and boundary forcing, to address the (erroneous) warming trend of BRAN1.
27 Sept 2005: From model day 7 March 1997, the parameters of the mixed layer scheme are altered to reduce the thickness of the mixed-layer, which was evidently still too thick.
23 Aug 2006: First test of delivering graphics for viewing using Google Earth.
20 July 2007: BRAN2.1 completed, and is clearly a big improvement on BRAN1.
2 August 2007: Public launch of the Bluelink Forecasts.
