Test delivery of model SST via Google Earth.
NB you need to have
- version 4 installed
- memory cache of at least 192Mb (GE: tools/options/cache)
to view these files.
- model SST. As you zoom in, you will see finer spatial and temperature resolution. The latter is achieved by setting the colour scale independently for each tile of the globe. Hence, near Antarctica the red patches are a lot colder than red patches near the equator. This gives the globe a 'patchwork quilt' appearance, but enables more detail to be shown. The only way to use a single colour bar to show detail for the whole globe is to show temperature minus the large scale pattern. This is what we do in this next example:
