Description: Soela cruise SO 3/80 was undertaken for an acoustic survey of pelagic fish in the Great Australian Bight. Primary objectives were to examine hydrological and biological conditions existing in the area and to collect material from fish catches for life history studies. Secondary objectives included a diel feeding study of demersal fish. Sampling of apex predators and to collect cephalopods for taxonomy and life history studies. Sampling methods included acoustics, bongo and surface net tows, midwater and demersal trawls, trolling, longlining, XBTs, Nansen and niskin casts and secchi disc readings.
