Description: Courageous cruise 018 was undertaken to survey a possible cold water upwelling between Gabo Island and Cape Coran, to investigate the distribution and gonad condition of jack mackerel in northern Bass Strait and off eastern Tasmania, using pelagic, midwater and demersal trawls and acoustic surveys, and to conduct experimental fishing of the lantern fish resource. The voyage took place between Sydney-Bass Strait-Tasmanian waters-Sydney, from 3 to 25 March 1977.
