Contents | Top (m) | Base (m) |
---|---|---|
10 x 10 x 5 cm boulder of weathered subangular lava fragments typically 2-5 mm in diameter; conglomerate. Includes a large 10 x 10 x 2 cm clast of black highly vesicular (30%) sparsely plagioclase phyric (2%) basalt. Clast has a brown-orange weathering rind 4 mm thick underlain by a yellow-green rind 3 mm thick, but the interior is fresh. | ||
Large boulder of bedded volcaniclastic conglomerate and sandstone. Contains one clast of dark grey plagioclase phyric (5%) vesicular (10%; irregular to 5 mm across) basalt. Denser than 61-01. Discolored and Fe-stained on surfaces. No glass. | ||
As for 61-02, but all of boulder is conglomerate. | ||
Black glassy sands, plagioclase crystals and biota (dominated by sponge spicules) from the sediment pipes. | ||
Small pebble 3 cm long of dense non-vesicular plagioclase phyric (20%) andesite. Markedly different from other lithologies in the haul, and interpreted as contamination from the previous dredge (which contained similar lithologies). | ||
Red-brown Fe-oxyhydroxide aggregates and Fe-coated pumice fragments, handpicked from pipe dredge sediment. | ||
Black fresh vesicular (15%: to 4 mm across) plagioclase phyric (10%) basalt. No adhering conglomerate or weathering. |
