Taxon Notes: | Recently confirmed to be a separate species on the basis of molecular evidence (Curry, 1997). Prior to that, included within morphological range of T. truncatus. It is presumed that true T. truncatus also occurs in offshore Australian waters. According to Wells and Scott (2002), T. aduncus tends to be smaller than T. truncatus, has a proportionately longer rostrum and develops ventral spotting when sexually mature. | ||||
